Poetic?

May. 24th, 2008 | 08:18 pm

I enjoyed going back and reading my journal entries. Why did I stop writing in this?

Ruth started a blog, and it inspired me to re-instate my own. So here I am.

I am married now. It's crazy to put that in writing. Chip and I have offered on a house - and the offer has been accepted - so now we need to "inspect" the house and then it may be ours!

Wear Something of Kara's Day

Nov. 15th, 2006 | 11:26 pm
mood: contemplativeevery entry i am contemplative

Today was Wear Something of Kara's Day and I must say, I enjoyed walking around, looking oh-so-hott in her clothes.

Soccer is done for the season. It's strange - it feels strange - to be done this early. I still, however, have tape on my nose.

One of my favorite snacks this year has been peanut butter and honey on a nice piece of bread. I'm eating it right now.

I almost skipped class to watch Biggest Loser tonight. I say "almost" because, although I did skip about 10 minutes of class, I also went back for the last 15. I just didn't have the guts. Marty got voted off - it was sad, but man! he got skinny in a hurry. Lost 140 pounds and he looks like he could be a trainer now. Maybe he'll win the consolation prize.

I have been learning so much this semester about worldviews, thanks to all five of my classes (note: I'm pretty much learning the same thing in all five of my classes - it's crazy how they're connected this semester). Learning about worldviews has really changed the way I view the world. But seriously. Some guy came to our class today from Wycliffe Bible Translators and his story was incredible. Amazing. I have been more and more amazed by the power of God's Word. So you'd think I'd read it more on my own time. And live it more in my own life.

I grow old. I grow old. I am a junior, soon-to-be-senior, in college. Time flies.

This is the first time in a long time that I've had time to just sit. Just sit. And now write.

On this past Sunday afternoon, my grandmother, mother, brother, boyfriend, and I took a trip to the apple orchards. Have I mentioned that autumn is my favorite season? It is. Now I have seven empire apples, shining, sitting next to me on a shelf and reminding me of the perfect fall day.

I have been so blessed to be able to participate in soccer this season. What a joy to be able to play a sport I love so much. And what an honor to play with the team that I do.

I had left-over chicken mishwi from Sahara's for dinner tonight. Wow.

* * *

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any--lifted from the no
of allnothing--human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Vogue

Well, I'm pretty sure this whole "livejournal" scene is out of vogue with my immediate circle of friends, and I doubt that anyone reads this anymore since I'm pretty sure I haven't updated in months and months. But now I am back at school, and part of being back at school is updating my livejournal. It's tradition. And so here I am.

I'm alone in my room right now, with a green face mask on my face, listening to "Holy is the Lord" (Andrew Peterson).

I'm glad to be back. School starts soon.

SInce I Am On My Home Computer . . .

May. 15th, 2006 | 04:14 pm

Since I am on my home computer, I had to type the livejournal address into the address bar. However, instead of typing "livejournal" I accidently typed "LIVERjournal." Imagine my surprise when I was navigated to a website dedicated to liver-lovers. Uh, just kidding. I merely pressed delete to be rid of the extra R. Then proceeded to laugh at myself in this empty house.

Last night I had the craziest dream. I was going to walk to Sha Sha Wu's discrete mathematics class, which was being held at his house in Jackson, for some reason. Jackson's a long way to walk from here. So I start off, but instead of going down College, I go down Red Robin Road and I end up in the ghetto of Jackson next to this school that's having a football game. I stand and watch the football game and talk to people and stuff. After the game, I was looking for a ride back to the Arbor, since by that time I probably already missed my Discrete class. But instead of finding a ride in a traditional CAR, I found a ride with a bunch of people on a SLED. Yes: a SLED. It was awesome. There wasn't snow or anything - when we went down hills we went real fast and when we went up sometimes we had to get out to push. I was in the back in the trunk/basket-thing. Riding that sled was one of the most fun experiences of my dreamlife.

And that's all I remember.

Thank you, Willow, for noticing my unfinished entry. . .

A Chapter Closed

May. 3rd, 2006 | 02:21 pm
mood: blahbittersweet

I just finished my last day of tutoring Ashley. It is so completely bittersweet to be done with it. It was such a learning experience for me. After working together 3 times a week for several months, we really established a routine, a way of doing things. Since Ashley had some learning disabilities (ADD, autism, dyslexia), I think that it ended up being all the more rewarding working with him and watching him improve. I love teaching. Not all aspects of it, of course, and not all the time, but in the end, the headaches end up being worth it.

I will remember my time with Ashley as being my first true teaching experience and will look back on it fondly. I'll never forget the day that Chris farted and I had no idea how to respond; or when Ashley started using algebraic principles to do division; or when he and Chris drew pictures of whales being speared when we were talking about addition and subtraction . . .

Strategy Notebook

Apr. 24th, 2006 | 02:45 pm
location: Beta Computer Lab >:(
mood: aggravatedstay away! don't come near me!
music: the melodious sound of keyboards being pummeled

Well, I'm in the Beta Computer Lab. For awhile it was only me and on other girl, so I was able to completely monopolize the printer. Then a bunch of people came in to print stuff off and now I am in here with four other people, all of whom may want to print something off at any second! That leaves me stuck. What if I load up my notecards again and have to take them out a second later so someone can print with real paper?! The good news is that I finished printing off my Assessment Cards. And it's pretty good news that I am even able to print them directly onto the cards. I'm really proud of myself actually - it was a difficult task, but somehow I was able to overcome! Now if these other people would just leave...

So we won our tournament yesterday. By that I mean we won all our games. We beat MSU's club team 3-0, Aquinas 2-0, and Alma 7-0. And guess who scored the second goal against MSU? That's right, yours truly. And who assisted the first goal against Aquinas with her roommate? Darn straight - yours truly. And who had a hat-trick against Alma? Yeah, not me. But it was a good day. I loved playing, even though the weather was pretty miserable. It was my first time playing a real 11 v 11 game in a little over a year. And it was wonderful. Dad and Bryan were at my first game to see my first (unofficial) college goal. Chip, Ashley, Mom, Doug, Dad, and Bryan came for the second game with Nat and Anneke joining them for the first half. And everyone but Ashley stayed for the third game. Lee and Sarah Garner came to the third game as well. Too bad it was SO BORING. We slaughtered 'em.

The weather is nice out today. It's been nice out for a couple weeks now - ironic that yesterday would be the only miserable day of the spring. At least that weather wasn't on the day of the carwash. I can play in 40 degrees and rainy, but a carwash? Not happening.

I'm trying to waste time, but I'm beginning to despair of these people leaving. Maybe I could fake a seizure. Or yell "FIRE" and grab the extinguisher and spray it at people until they book it. If I had gas right now, I could let one fly (but alas, no gas).

I might need to just wake up early in the morning. When the whole wide world is fast asleep...

The Roommate Game

Apr. 19th, 2006 | 10:42 pm
mood: goodgood

Q and I placed 3rd at the Roommate Game - out of the whole campus! We might have actually gotten 2nd, cuz some people cheated. We might have actually gotten 1st cuz the first place people were RA's so they probably knew the questions. And Q and I didn't prep at all and we rocked it out! I knew Q would be good at that game. She is super-observant and has a good memory. Unlike me. She is super.

Here were our correct answers:
- first fight: studying for OT test (open window)
- my eye color: blue
- time Q showers in a week: every other day/3-4
- what annoys me about Q: she has low self-esteem/"the way I put myself down"
- number of my chapel skips: 4
- CD in my CD player now: Rob Blackledge (that guy I saw in concert last night)

And our wrong ones:
- last movie I saw in theaters: pink panther (guessed narnia)
- my favorite article of clothing: i had no idea (guessed gamma 2 shirt)
- what Q is afraid of: snakes (i didn't know)
- number of shoes I have at school: i didn't know (guessed 10)

We rocked it out with no prepping. Everyone else prepped their whole lives - just goes to show how well we know each other! It was a good time.

One Year Anniversary

Apr. 18th, 2006 | 11:42 pm
mood: embarrassedflushed
music: "You are Beautiful" by I Don't Know Who

Today is the one-year anniversary of tearing my ACL. Why, yes - yes, it is. Or as Diana corrected me, of Jenn tearing my ACL. Love to you, Jennivere. Yes - why, yes, she is still my friend. Even after what she did to me. *single tear

I played soccer today and both my ACL's are still intact. I went to a concert and watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I lost my card for breakfast, but found it by lunchtime. I wore my Ciao Bella shirt from Chip. I made a pop-up card for Sharpie with pop-up crutches in the middle. The text said (on the front) "Gee Whiz" and then (on the inside) "We hate crutches!" (For those of you who do not catch on to poetry very quickly, that rhymes. Why, yes - yes, it does.) Then to conclude, "Happy Rehabilitation..." and all our names. I love pop-up cards.

I sat through two incredibly boring classes with three boring presentations. I smelled spring. I wrote a poetic phrase: Like a star, you are beautiful in the rain. Or maybe it was just something that I misheard.

I ought to write in here more often.

Mains, get out the stove!

Don't ask me what that title means. Ask Jenn. And when you do, ask in a southern accent.

Today was an odd day because when I woke up, it was snowing. Now it is sunny and relatively nice.

I am very much behind on my Discrete homework. And we have a quiz Friday. Time to get motivated, I suppose.

Soccer tonight. I hope we play.

Crayon was going to be president, but plans fell through. And we had such good ideas too.

I put the Cali vid, the FL vid, Randi (the trilogy), and my birfday vid all on a dvd for my viewing pleasure! It's still burning now and probably won't be done until tonight. It's gonna be good though.

Come, spring, come.
